Al-Saidi Hassan, Ravi Krishnan, Narayan Mondal, Suchismita Sahu, Aditee Garg and
many others were present there.
On this occasion Madhumita Puri said, a thing of beauty is a joy forever ....and
this is more true when the journey that led to the creation is explored. Art for
Prabhat is one such journey of which each show is a landmark. Here the sparks of
dynamic synergy between the retarded and the genius unfolds as our youngsters
(shunned, ridiculed, and isolated by society on account of their intellectual
disability) create a canvas for the artist (creative, imaginative, loved and
revered) to further develop into a thing of beauty.
Artists have been joining hands in the cause of our young adults since 2001, when we
had our first show curated by Suneet Chopra and inaugurated by Smt Sonia Gandhi at
the Arpana Gallery. The Canvas - 300 gsm art quality, acid free, handmade paper made
from recycled waste painstakingly sheet by sheet.
The Painter - Sensitive geniuses who show the world that anything is possible. The
eagerness and the excitement with which most artists have been responding over the
years when we contact them, and many who contact us as soon as they hear of the
project, has given us heart. The works we receive are uplifting reflecting the
capacity of such a synergy and the hope it spells for a better life for all around.
We can now clearly see the future of an on-going relation between the art world and
the SFCD especially as we witness the act of solidarity by the artists and the
reciprocal gift of paper by the papermakers.
We hope that one day that the paper so beautifully produced by these young adults
with mental handicap will become a regular feature in the art world and will give
them a chance to be center-stage with the rest of society as is their just due. And
we also hope that viewers too will join hands with us and walk towards the vision
and creation of a beautiful society. And thus will the joy of creation ever bring
fulfillment in the hearts of those who create the paper, those who use it and those
who view.
